The encounter

Title — Goddess and Devil
Scene: Neither Yours, Nor Yours to Lose

Aatharv laughed.

Low, rich, and deep.

The kind of laugh that didn't just echo — it settled into the air like smoke curling through firelit halls. He closed his eyes with it, as if it tasted sweet. As if he hadn’t laughed in years, and her defiance brought something feral back to life in him.

It wasn’t mocking.

It was a declaration.
Of amusement.
Of admiration.
Of something dangerously close to surrender — if a devil ever knew how.

“You,” he said through the remnants of his laugh, voice husky now, “are far too perfect for me to shoot, sweetheart.”

He opened his eyes again, and they were darker now. Not just because of the night, or the rain, or the sins running through his veins — but because she had awakened something.

“And I won’t let you shoot me either,” he added, lower now. Softer. Deadlier.

Then he moved.

His arm slid around her waist like a promise soaked in sin. Not hesitant — intentional. His hand splayed across her lower back, pulling her to him in a single, fluid motion that stole the breath between them. Their bodies fit like unfinished verses of the same curse.

But she—

She didn’t melt.

She didn’t break.

“Don’t,” she mumbled, and her voice cracked like cold glass against his flame.

Her eyes didn’t blink.
Didn’t waver.
Locked on his like a warrior staring into the jaws of a beast — not afraid, just ready.

“I’m not for fleeting pleasures,” she said, steady as rain on steel. “Not someone to taste and forget.”

And just like that—

She pushed his hands aside.

Not with force.
With finality.

Like a queen rejecting a crown she never asked for.

Her breath was sharp now, measured, like she had ripped control back with her bare hands and would not give it up again. Not even to the devil himself.

“Either shoot…” she said, again.

But it was colder now.

Cleaner.

“…or I’ll shoot you myself, finish my work—”
She brushed her rain-slicked hair back with a single sweep of her hand.
Neck tilted, jaw proud, throat exposed like a dare.
“…and get out.”

Her face was blank.

Neutral.

A mask honed through years of killing, of surviving, of becoming more myth than girl.

But her eyes?

They were burning.

And Aatharv?

He didn’t move.

Because for the first time in years, maybe in lifetimes, someone had turned his desire into a battlefield. And he had no idea if he wanted to win…

…or be destroyed by her.
